Good Thing the Pens Didn’t Leave

The team fought hard to get their new arena project going and now the public can be rewarded for many more years to come with commercials. Many people are fans of the local car dealer commercials, but this one in particular needs special recognition. When else can you include Evgeni Malkin, who doesn’t speak English, as well as provide a forum for Max Talbot to show of his dancing and rapping abilities. Also, for future reference, hockey will never be a big part of this blog.

Al Davis is Ri God Damn Diculous

lane kiffinSo, the story just broke on espn.com that Al Davis has sent a drafted resignation letter to the legal representatives of head coach Lane Kiffin. Obviously, Kiffin has refused to sign the letter as he uses logic in making decision unlike Al Davis who looks like starting to decompose.

Davis needs to realize that continuity works and Kiffin is only 32 years old, the youngest coach since the merger. He was obviously going to need some time to grow into this role. I also think Davis made the right decision in the first place. Kiffin is a young guy that brings a lot of energy to a team, a city and a horror movie culture that is Raider fanhood. If you really think about it, they won four games this year, I didn’t think that was going to happen.

Prediction: Kiffin stays at least one more year as Davis does not want to eat the $2 million Kiffin is owed and the Raiders will get Darren McFadden and will finish at 8-8 giving the Black Hole reason for human sacrifice.

NFL Player Wears Hot Pants

Leave it to a Seattle Seahawk to make yet another fashion statement after the influx of the lime green accents from their arm bands to their shoes. This time though it might notjosh-brown.jpg be as apparent when looking at the uniform. ESPN has reported that when Seahawk kicker Josh Brown travels to the below freezing temperatures of Lambeau field this weekend, he will be wearing pants with electric heating pads installed. His legs will be kept at a constant 75 degrees in order to help him stay warmed up throughout the contest. After hearing a story like this, I’m just glad that I am a Steelers fan and get to see Jeff Reed show off his biceps no matter the temperature.

A Respectable Joe Namath

Joe Namath has come a long way since since1964. He has become an advertising icon, a legendary quarterback, and now a college graduate. Namath left the University of Alabama to pursue a career in the then AFL, and waited 42 years before obtaining those last few elusive credits at the age of 64. Namath walked across the stage at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa on December 15 and received his degree, which is a long way from where he was on that fateful Monday Night that will live forever tarnishing his career. It is something that not even a college degree can overcome. Basically this post was a sorry excuse to talk about this moment and play this video as well as giving me a chance to look at some Suzy Kolber pictures. Amazing. Goddess. Knowledgeable. Can you imagine some pillow talk about the strengths and weaknesses of the 3-4 defense?

Are You Serious?

While flipping through some news pages at work today I came across this story that left me speechless, not only for the fact that it was terrible, but also for the incredibly small amount of coverage it received. Kelly Tilgham was anchoring coverage of the opening PGA Tour event of the season for the Golf Channel when she began to banter withtilgham1.jpg her co-anchor, Nick Faldo. While discussing the way that Tiger Woods abuses his competitors, Tilgham uttered the young players today should “lynch Tiger in a back alley.” Yes, she used the word lynch, and as I stated earlier, are you serious? She has reportedly apologized publicly as well as directly to Tiger, but how is this just being brushed off. The only answer to this would have to be that she is a woman. The use of the word lynch is almost criminal and especially in a day when Keith Hernandez is getting fired for saying that women don’t belong in the dugout. Action needs to be taken swiftly and mostly because this comment wasn’t even funny like Lamar Thomas who lost his job. It might get interesting if we see some feminists go up against Al Sharpton in a battle royale to see who is more influential. I’d get the Pay Per View.

Linda Tripp Played for the Yankees?

Today, fresh off of his 60 Minutes interview with the crypt keeper Mike Wallace, Roger Clemens called a press conference as he continued to refute the allegations made in themike wallace clemensMitchell Report by his former trainer of ten years, Brian McNamee. Clemens pulled a Bill Parcells move as he tried to bully the media just like he did so many times on the mound. Both last night, and this afternoon, Clemens repeatedly got hostile in defending himself which may be warranted but is contuining to hurt his credibility as he whines. He has been sounding more and more like Kelso from That 70s Show trying to get back together with Jackie Burkhart. Sometimes you need to take the high road no matter the circumstances. This bitch fest of a press conference took one giant leap to becoming infamous as Clemens elected to play a taped phone conversation he had with his accuser. This recording including a discussion of McNamee’s ill son as well as one awkward exchange that included McNamee asking Clemens what he wanted him to do. I just can’t believe a tough guy like Roger Clemens resorted to pulling the same tactics as Linda Tripp did in the Monica Lewinsky scandal. No more Rocket, now it’s just Tripp.

The Rebirth

Last night I was pleasantly surprised in watching the newest edition of the classic American Gladiators competition. Hosts Hulk Hogan and Laila Ali bring the credentials to the game that was once filled by the outdoorsman himself, Larry Csonka. Also, thankfully the lawn gnome known as Mike Adamle was left in obscurity. The Gladiators themselves also lived up to the expectations as each has a distinctive personality and the equally distinctive costume. I would actually like to see a little commentary from them during the broadcasts rather than the lame competitors, was that Asian guy really calling himself “the Spidermonkey.” Just think of some of the classic lines that might come out of Titan or Hellga’s mouth. People still watch a clip from Malibu during the first season where he described his perfect day on the beach. Overall the corny feel of the show held strong, owever the constant interviewing slowed the show down way too much and forced me to constantly flip back to a rebroadcast of some Chris Rock standup on Comedy Central. Now, I just want to start seeing this game featured on some sports broadcasts, it’s like WWE with the egos and gimmicks, while also providing a real competitive nature. I want to see Wolf howling during the open for Sportscenter or see that girl from last night bleeding from her face during the Ultimate Highlight. American Gladiators deserves more and I believe that the public agrees with me.

Money Mayweather Debut

For the most part it is true to say that when athletes try to break into the music industry it is a complete disaster, however this is not the case when it comes to boxers. The obvious reference I am making is to the song “Y’all Musta Forgot” by Roy Jones Jr. which he dropped a few years back. Now with the emergence of Floyd Mayweather as the face of boxing, he has thrown his hat into the hip hop field with his new single “Money Mayweather.” Why is it that boxers have produced the best music of any professional athletes? Is it that they train harder or that they have more time off? Personally, I think it has to do with the constant blows to head. Something just gets knocked loose and prevents them from churning out albums like Kobe or Shaq, or going way over the top like AI did in 2004 with 40 Bars. I wish Money Mayweather well in this new venture and by the looks of this first video, I expect great things.

The Next Denzel

Attention, Attention, Attention Chris Bosh is a seasoned actor and it is about time that the media has recognized his god given talent not only as an athlete, but as a thespian. This born entertainer has gotten some bit parts in an ESPN commercial, but recently he created his own big break with this campaign film as All-Star voting continues for the NBA.

He has showed some true comedic talent, but I know that there is another side to this obvious prodigy. The perfect role would be star opposite John Cena in the long awaited , upcoming remake of the Arnold Schwarzenegger classic, Predator. And do you ask what role this scene stealer would fit best in, as the PREDATOR. Also in the running for the title role are Laurence Maroney and Marion Barber III. This is like trying to pick the next James Bond.

Real Throwback Uniforms

Jan. 2, 2008   Leave a Comment

The other day it was ’80s night at the Staples Center as the Lakers took on the Celtics in those throwback uniforms that everyone seems to like. I’ll tell you that in no case I like the throwback uniform, I just ask why uniforms were changed at all. Try and tell me that the Yankees or Nittany Lions don’t have a few of the best uniforms in sports. However, in the case of the Lakers the other night, they went all the way with their taste of the past. I have been waiting for a long time or since the retirement of John Stockton to see someone break out the short shorts of yesteryear. The men from Hollywood did just this and finally made a fashion statement in honoring their hard court forefathers. I just think they should have gotten a little more publicity for it, cause this took some major brass. Luckily for the Lakers, John Amaechi was not in attendence.
